The Turbocharger was originally developed by Buchi to boost diesel engine power, output . A turbocharger is in simple terms a Supercharger driven by exhaust gases rather than a belt like a conventional supercharger.
In simple terms there is a turbine blade in the exhasust wich spins as the exhaust gas flows through the exhaust. This is coupled to another turbine which resides in the air intake and as it spins compreses the air being sent to the engine. As the air being sent to the engine is compressed it therefore contains more oxygen for a given volume. More oxygen means more fuel can be added and hence higher engine performance can be obtained.
